Wichita is an amazing place to live and work!

Wichita is home to three major universities: Wichita State University, Friends University and Newman University. The WSU Shocker basketball team is a local favorite and has won the MVC tournament and made a final four appearance in the NCAA tournament in the last five years. The Shockers scored 35-1 in 2014; a feat never been seen before in Men’s College Basketball history.

On the professional sports front, Wichita has professional men’s hockey, indoor football, baseball, and soccer teams. Kansas City is an easy drive for Major League Baseball (Kansas City Royals) and National Football League (Kansas City Chiefs) games; while the Thunder play in the National Basketball Association in Oklahoma City.

Wichita is considered the air-capital of the world. Several major aviation companies actually began in Wichita. The aviation community is represented by Spirit Aerosystems, Airbus, and Cessna Aircraft and Beechcraft Corporation who are now owned by Textron Inc.

Wichita is an easy jumping off point to fly anywhere in the United States. Kansas City is three hours away; Oklahoma City three hours and Denver is an easy eight hour drive. The best summer and winter vacations can be found in Colorado.

On the entertainment front, Wichita has an opera, professional music theater, and symphony orchestra, and art museums. Intrust Bank Arena and Hartman Arena bring in some of the top acts in the country, including: Taylor Swift, George Strait, Kid Rock and The Rolling Stones.

Most major retailers can be found in Wichita. You will find Ann Taylor, White & Black Market, Coldwater Creek, Gap, Banana Republic, Kohl’s, Dick’s, Sports Academy, Von Maur, Dillards and a host of custom boutiques.

Restaurants are in abundance. Major chains have a presence such as PF Chang’s China Bistro, BoneFish, Abuello’s, and Fox & and Hound. But the real finds are the locally grown restaurants which cover the city, such as Chester’s Chophouse, Lucianos, Sabor, Tata’s and Larkspur.

Koch Industries – the world’s largest privately held company also calls Wichita home. KOCH is the parent company of Georgia Pacific, Flint Hills Natural Resources and Invista to name a few.
